How to Get a Brand-New Smile Using All-on-4® Dental Implants

Nov 01, 2020

Some decades ago, tooth loss was considered irreversible, and one had to live with missing teeth. However, we have seen massive leaps in dental technology, and having missing teeth is no longer a permanent issue.

For several years, people relied on dental bridges and dentures since these were the only options available. Now, you can have permanent replacement teeth with dental implants in Concord, MA.

As far as teeth replacement goes, dental implants near you sit atop that list. Even taking it a notch higher, there are All-On-4® dental implants that are far more convenient and cost-effective, especially if you have lost several teeth or all of your teeth.

All-On-4 implants are an excellent restorative option for patients who are edentulous (toothless) or those who have severely decayed teeth due to cavities or periodontal disease.

So, What Are All-On-4 Dental Implants?

All-On-4 dental implants are commonly dubbed as “teeth in a day.” This is because you can walk in with a missing tooth or teeth and can come out with a beautiful smile.

This tooth replacement technique combines different technologies and methods that provide a stable and secure anchorage for the replacement teeth. This makes them more secure than traditional methods such as dentures that relied on adhesives and natural suction.

Since dental implants replace the entire tooth, All-On-4 implants use four fixed dental implants surgically inserted in your jawbone. These implants are carefully and strategically inserted in your jaw after our dentist has thoroughly examined your jaw and seen the best position to place the implants.

Implants are typically fashioned from titanium. Titanium is the choice material for three reasons:

  • It is sturdy and durable, meaning that it can withstand your biting force without wearing out or breaking.
  • It is a biocompatible material, which means that it can be introduced into the body, and the body will not reject it.
  • It can fuse with the bone as it heals to become part of your body, a process known as osseointegration. This is what makes implants exceptionally strong and last as long as your natural teeth

How Are They Placed?

Typically, the procedure goes as follows:

Examination
Our dentist will perform a thorough examination of your jawbone. This is done using a CT scan to generate a 3D image of your mouth. This helps our dentist fine-tune the treatment to fit your needs since no two patients are the same.

The CT scan will reveal the accurate measurements needed to ensure that the implants are stable when placed. Also, the health of your gums and bone will be checked. If you need bone grafting to aid in bulking up the jawbone, you will be notified.

After our dentist reviews your case and ascertains that the All-On-4 implants are appropriate for you to replace your missing teeth, your surgery can be scheduled.

Procedure

On the day of the surgery, our dentist will begin by sedating the area using local anesthesia or intravenous anesthesia to ensure that the procedure is pain-free.

Typically, two implants will be inserted near the front of your mouth and the other two at the back. They are strategically placed to allow a dental bridge to be secured. Then the area where they are inserted is sealed with sutures.

Our dentist may take two to three hours to fix each arch. Then a temporary bridge will be placed to enable you to eat. This is done to give your bone time to heal. When your bone is healed, the temporary bridge will be removed, and the permanent one is placed.

In some cases, the healing time may be bypassed, and you may get your permanent implants a day or two after the surgery.

Why Go for All-On-4 Dental Implants?

Many patients go for All-On-4 implants because of the following reasons:

  • Improved look since missing teeth can taint your smile. Your face may sag, and you may have an aged appearance.
  • They are a permanent tooth replacement.
  • Rapid transformation.
  • They are natural-looking since they mimic the look and feel of natural teeth.
  • They are easy to maintain since you can clean them the same way you clean your teeth.
  • They are firmly fixed on your jawbone, which means that they will not fall out.
  • You can eat what you want and are not restricted, as is the case with dentures.
